BEACH + BEAT

The 31st annual Dancin in the Street (DITS) festival will kick off Saturday, May 20 at 11:00am at the Beaches Town Center, located at the ocean end of Atlantic Boulevard. Events for the one-day festival are scheduled from 11:00am – 9:00pm. For the past thirty one years, Dancin in the Street has been attracting event-goers from all over Jacksonville as a result of the festival’s entertainment, food and drink options, Kid Zone, and arts and crafts exhibitors.

Beaches Town Center Agency is the official sponsor of Dancin in the Street; the agency’s board members are responsible for all sales of bricks, 31st Annual DITS apparel, and frozen drinks. As the agency’s largest annual fundraiser, monies raised from Dancin’ in the Street contribute to the ongoing beautification projects to continuously improve the Atlantic and Neptune Beach central business district.

DANCIN’ IN THE STREET LIVE MUSIC

ORANGE ST. STAGE

Whitewater: 11:30am Whitewater is a local beaches band that has been playing with this configuration of players for a few months, but has played together in various forms for multiple years. Whitewater consists of Lee Kuhn on guitar and lead vocals, Alex McIntyre on bass and vocals and Jayson Carter on drums. Whitewater plays a mix of originals and covers, many influenced by the blues and rock and roll greats. This is their first, and hopefully not last, performance at Dancin’ in the Street.

Five O’Clock Shadow: 12:30pm Five O'Clock Shadow is a party band based out of Jacksonville, FL. The band is composed of seasoned musicians who love to play music and have a great time doing it! No songs are off limits. As long as its fun and upbeat they will play it! Their genres range from rock, pop, dance, funk, hip-hop and alt-rock. Bob Arndt is on lead vocals and guitar, Andy O'Connell on lead guitar and vocals, Mike Beckley on percussion and vocals and Jason Ramsey on bass and vocals. Check out the band at https://www.facebook.com/5iveoclockshadow/.

Briteside: 1:30pm Briteside is a six-member band delivering high-energy, action-packed, unforgettable performances. Jam out to the best dance music from every era – from pop, rock and funk to soul, R&B and hip-hop. Briteside’s talent and showmanship is only equaled by its nonstop energy, making it the stand-alone best party band around. With dual male and female vocalists, no genre is safe. No other band makes you sing along louder, dance harder and scream “I love this song!” more than Briteside! Often imitated, never duplicated.

The Party Cartel: 2:30pm After bouncing around in the back streets and ghettos of such rough places as Avondale, Ponte Vedra, Mandarin, and Queen's Harbour, 4 of the local heavies come together to form a new kind of cartel... a Party Cartel. Everybody needs to get their dance on and these wiseguys are dealing their music wares to the people! Buster, on lead vocals, has shed his jumpsuit and mohawk in exchange for some Pimp Daddy good looks behind the microphone. Metro is on lead guitar. His musical talents have taken him all over the country, or at least from Atlantic Beach to St. Augustine. And, he just finished playing guitar on yet another world tour of Nocatee. Rev, on bass, lays the bass lines that are smooth like butta... and da folks be freakin'... and da audience was laid to the bone. And then there's Leroy G. Leroy…never really learned to play drums. Always known for his clumsiness, he "tripped over" his first drum kit when he was nine...and it sounded AMAZING...and he's been doing damage to drum kits ever since. Now these funk brokers of love get to fulfill a life long dream of dealin' it out on the streets of Neptune Beach. Ladies and gentlemen, you wanted the best, but they couldn’t be here…so please welcome THE PARTY CARTEL!!!

Solar Tide: 3:30pm Solar Tide is a stylish trio based in Jacksonville, Fla., performing pure acoustic versions of some of your favorite songs – from the 70's to modern hits. Vocals, acoustic guitars, mandolin, violin and percussion make up the sound that is Solar Tide. Members Sarah, Chad and Chris will put on a great show, whether it is at a backyard party or on a big stage. Get ready to party with Solar Tide!

Bad Habits: 4:30pm The Bad Habits are a three-piece trio that covers everything from Aerosmith and Jack Johnson to Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top. Veteran musicians Spencer Gregg (guitar/vox) and Billy Smith (bass/vox) have teamed up with groove master Dylan Smith (drums) to be the host of the party wherever they play and always invite assorted singers and musicians to come up and jam and join in the fun. Who else has the balls...I mean audacity to play Sublime, Johnny Cash, Van Halen, Prince, Joe Walsh, Chili Peppers, Skynyrd and Stevie Wonder in the same set but the...BAD HABITS.

Bay Street: 5:30pm BayStreet was formed in 1987. In the beginning, John Miller and the boys were propagating the Blues, which was an almost non-existent art form way back in the ‘80s. Over the years, the group became well known for genre-bending exploration of R&B, Rock, Soul, Jazz, Jam, Pop, and all points in between.  BayStreet has been named three times as Jacksonville's favorite band by three different publications. They have been awarded the Key to the City of Jacksonville Beach for their charitable efforts. Over the years, they have released five recordings, and their set lists routinely include a healthy dose of BayStreet tunes together with tasty covers. Many established bands have chosen BayStreet as an opening act, including B.B. King, Styx, Kenny Loggins, Koko Taylor, Badfinger, The Drifters, Three Dog Night, The Family Stone, Modern English, Waylon Jennings and many more. While usually performing in the northeast Florida region, the band has toured as far as the San Francisco Bay Area, The Bahamas, Virginia, and the Carolinas.
