Around 5 PM, in the middle of about four thousand strong, one man starts to jump to the thumping music. Within minutes; two, three and then ten bystanders join in on the action.

The songs are exhilarating and the crowd starts to get in to it. You can see hundreds of cell phones out taping the action and every minute it seems like a few more people jump in to the middle of the dance.

This fascinating event is called a Flash Mob and they are popping up all over the world. This weekend in Atlantic Beach, the community got a taste of a well-produced flash mob that had the streets of thousands jumping to the music (literally)! This production was created by Jay & Beth Handline, owners of Dance Trance Fitness by request from Patsy Bishop, the Organizer of Dancing in the Street.

"There is just something special about so many people from one community coming together to dance" says Flash Mob organizer Beth Handline, "for just a few minutes you forget everything and just dance with your neighbors."

This event was six weeks in the making. Several practice sessions were held weekly so that everybody got a chance to get in on the action. Members of the local community, Dance Trance Fitness, LaVilla School for The Performing Arts, Fletcher High School, Episcopal High School and Florida State College Dance Team participated together.

It was truly an assortment of old, young, dancers and non-dancers alike. It is joyful to watch and has taken the Internet by storm. Comments after watching the video include I cried watching this and everyone around was stunned!

Video produced by Carlos Bouvier (Films by Design), Jacksonville, Florida.

Pick 3. Spend 50. Save your local economy.Think about which three independently owned stores you’d miss most if they were gone. Stop in, say hello, and pick a little something up. That’s how they stay around. If just halfthe employed U.S. population spent $50 each month in independently owned stores, their purchases would generate $42,629,700,000 in revenue.*

For every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 returns to the community throughtaxes, payroll, and other expenditures. In a national chain, only $43 stays here.

Spend it online and nothing comes home. The number of people it takes to start the trend...you.
